I'm Justin, a fourth-year dual-degree student at Brown University and Rhode Island School of Design,
studying History/Archaeology at Brown and Painting at RISD. At the moment, I'm constructing
works that recycle motifs from the deep (and not-so-deep!) past to speak to Asian-American coalition-building today,
my great-grandfather's work as a state archaeologist supervising Swedish colonial explorers in northwest China, and the
narrative and affectual capacities of my source material. I hold deep loves for house, emo, and indie rock, contemporary
films out of Iran, Thailand, Senegal, and Vietnam, and the experience of art in the flesh. I'd like to object more to
the limitations of medium and the institutional bounds placed on my learning,
striving now toward familiarity with hot glass, print, and ceramic alongside my commitment to paint.
